Victoria Skeet and Trap Club
WELCOME NEWSLETTER
To all members
of the Victoria Skeet and Trap Club.
And, to all the new members of our club and/or new participants to the clay
target shooting fraternity:
WE WELCOME
YOU TO OUR CLUB!
This Newsletter
is VERY important and needs to be read by all shooters that frequent our new
shooting facility we spent so much time building at the Victoria Regional
Airport.
The Victoria Skeet and Trap Club is a strictly “VOLUNTEER” facility! There
is NO paid maintenance or any other type of paid help at our range. All of
the field maintenance; mowing, edging, trash pick-up, hull pick-up, scoring
and pulling during shoots, classroom clean-up, machine loading, etc. is all
done by volunteers from within the membership. All of the equipment used for
the field maintenance is owned by the club and is stored in the equipment
building (along the airport fence side of the club) and can be used by any
club members that would be willing to help the same few people who always
end up doing most of the work. The club “Thanks You” in advance for any help
you can provide.
Please view our V.S.&T.C. “Range Rules” and
especially note a new item, number 8, pertaining to our “No Alcohol
consumption, until AFTER you have finished shooting for the day” policy that
is the standard policy at all shooting ranges around the country. This is a
policy the management of the V.S.&T.C. believes in and is a required by our
insurance carrier, the National Association of Shooting Ranges (NASR), the
National Rifle Association (NRA) and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department
(TP&WD). We also need to be ever vigilant to make sure all shooters and
range help use eye protection and hearing protection when shooting or
assisting on the range.
Please, if you find the trashcans full, empty them into our trash dumpster
(near the burning barrel). These trashcans were put here for your
convenience, but they don’t just empty themselves when full. There are extra
barrel liners in the storeroom (beside the classroom on a shelf in the
corner). Replace the liner with a new one when throwing away the trash. If
someone leaves hulls on the field (they shouldn’t. It’s a violation of range
rule #4. Pick them up and if you see who did this, inform them that they should
pick them up instead of leaving them for someone else to pick up. If the
fields look like they could use a good mowing, we would welcome your help
keeping our (and your) range as presentable as possible.
Also, re-read items 1 and 2 of the range rules about signing in the log book
“BEFORE” shooting so people coming out to the range will know who is there.
If you forget to finish filling in the book after you have completed
shooting, we will know whom to contact about the rounds shot. There has been
an instance or two recently regarding someone shooting and not filling in the
book until called on it and this CAN NOT happen. Please, sign-in BEFORE
shooting and finish filling in the book as you are leaving the range. I
understand an honest mistake can be made, but if any of these instances were
intentional, it is UNFAIR for the rest of the paying members of the club
that rightfully pay for their rounds shot at the club. If we find that this
continues to be a problem, then we (your club and mine) will have to install
“expensive” closed-circuit television cameras and try to catch the
perpetrators. Any other solutions aren’t really feasible with a “volunteer”
club such as target-counting modules and locking up the machines and forcing
members to man the range when we have operated on the “honor” system so well
for so long. We actually like to believe at least one of these times was an
honest case of forgetfulness, but we need to remind ourselves to always be
on the lookout for anything that might be out-of-the-ordinary and question
the people you are not sure of or write down any license plate numbers or
vehicle descriptions of anything suspicious.
Per item 2 of the range rules, members can pay for their rounds with either
ticket coupons or cash or check. Guests MUST pay for their rounds with cash or check
ONLY. Guests are NOT to use the ticket coupons of the person
they are shooting with. Item 2 of the range rules spells this out very
clearly.
In item 1 there is also the proper way for filling in the information the
club needs to track the rounds shot, by either using ticket coupons or
cash/check payment (with the envelopes provided by the club next to the
payment box). PLEASE, do NOT just put cash in the box for your rounds shot
without using an envelope along with a description of what you shot written
down in the
logbook.
If everyone would please read again all of the items listed on the range
rules and abide by them, the range would run so much smoother and it would
always be in good shape for the shooters that follow you. A lot of blood,
sweat and tears went into building this facility and it takes just a little
EXTRA effort to keep it looking as good as it is now. It will only
continue to get better with all of the potential help and new members and
shooters we have.
Shoot safe and have fun!
Remember, “Being Safe means NO mistakes”.
Thank you,
The management of Victoria Skeet and Trap Club
